Description
Print School 2.0 provides a structured pathway for developing and launching physical paper products such as planners, journals, devotionals, workbooks, and related stationery. The learning journey begins with product direction and continues through design planning, manufacturing, costing, quality control, launch preparation, and sales. The emphasis is on making informed decisions at each stage so that a creative idea can become a clearly defined, manufacturable product.
The opening phase focuses on the foundation of a product business. Learners examine the relationship between an idea, a specific audience, and a useful product format. Rather than beginning with decoration or printing, the process starts by clarifying the product’s purpose, intended user, practical features, and expected place in the market. Learners develop a focused product concept and consider how size, page count, binding, materials, and user experience affect the final result.
The next stage addresses product planning and content structure. Learners map the internal pages and determine how the product will be used from beginning to end. For a planner, this may include calendars, goal-setting pages, planning spreads, reflection sections, and notes. For a journal or devotional, it may include prompts, guided exercises, reading sections, and writing space. The process helps learners make consistent decisions about sequence, repetition, margins, page density, and usability before sending files to a printer.
Design preparation follows. Learners explore the information a manufacturer needs in order to quote and produce a product accurately. They learn how to create or organize specifications covering dimensions, paper stock, color requirements, cover construction, binding, finishes, packaging, and quantities. Attention is given to the difference between an attractive design and a production-ready design. Learners also develop a practical system for reviewing files, naming versions, recording changes, and reducing avoidable errors during revisions.
A major part of the program concentrates on working with printers and manufacturing partners. Learners learn how to identify suitable vendors, compare production capabilities, request quotations, and communicate technical requirements. They examine the variables that influence manufacturing decisions, including minimum order quantities, lead times, shipping, customs, materials, finishing options, and production tolerances. This stage develops the ability to ask precise questions and compare quotations based on the full cost and suitability of an order rather than on unit price alone.
Sampling and quality control form the next phase. Learners are guided through the purpose of ordering samples before committing to a larger production run. They learn how to inspect color, paper feel, alignment, trimming, binding, cover construction, page order, packaging, and overall usability. The review process is treated as a documented quality check: problems are recorded, corrections are communicated, and revised samples are assessed against the original specifications. This approach helps prevent small design or manufacturing issues from becoming expensive inventory problems.
The course then moves into financial planning. Learners build a realistic view of product costs by considering design, sampling, manufacturing, freight, duties, storage, packaging, payment processing, marketing, and other operating expenses. They learn how quantity affects unit economics and how pricing must account for both customer expectations and the total cost of bringing the product to market. The planning process also includes inventory considerations, cash flow, production deposits, reorder timing, and the financial risks associated with ordering too much or too little stock.
Launch preparation connects the physical product to an e-commerce operation. Learners organize product information, photography requirements, descriptions, variants, packaging details, fulfillment procedures, and customer-service considerations. They develop a launch timeline that coordinates final approvals, manufacturing, shipping, product availability, promotional activity, and order processing. The aim is to create a controlled transition from production to selling rather than treating launch as a single isolated event.
The marketing and sales phase examines how to communicate a physical product clearly. Learners consider product positioning, audience language, demonstrations, educational content, email communication, social media planning, and sales-page structure. The focus remains on explaining the product’s purpose, contents, format, and practical benefits accurately. Learners also consider how to collect customer questions and feedback after launch so that future editions, related products, or reorders can be improved.
The final stage brings the full workflow together. Learners review the progression from concept and audience research through specifications, vendor communication, sampling, costing, production, launch, and post-launch evaluation. They leave with a repeatable process for managing future product releases and for making decisions based on documented requirements rather than guesswork. The result is a practical framework for turning a paper-product idea into a planned, manufactured, and sellable physical product.
Who this course is for:
Print School 2.0 is for aspiring and established creators who want to develop planners, journals, devotionals, workbooks, stationery, or other physical paper products and need a structured process for design, manufacturing, costing, and launch.Instructor

About Me
I am Polly Payne, a creative entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Horacio Printing. My work has grown from a deep interest in paper, planning, thoughtful design, and the role physical products can play in everyday life. I have built experience across product development, publishing, manufacturing, branding, and direct-to-consumer commerce, with a particular focus on planners, journals, devotionals, and other paper goods.
My journey has involved learning how an initial creative idea becomes a tangible product. That process requires more than visual design. It involves understanding materials, page structure, printing methods, sampling, production timelines, vendor communication, inventory, shipping, pricing, and customer experience. I have spent years working through those decisions in practice and refining systems that support reliable product development.
I approach my work by combining creativity with careful planning. I value products that are useful, durable, visually considered, and connected to a clear purpose. I also believe that manufacturing becomes more manageable when expectations are documented, questions are asked early, and each stage is reviewed before moving forward. My experience has taught me to treat revisions and quality checks as essential parts of the creative process rather than as obstacles to it.
My professional interests continue to center on paper products, independent brands, entrepreneurship, and the practical systems required to bring physical goods into the world. I am motivated by the intersection of imagination and execution: shaping an idea, making responsible production decisions, and building a business around products that people can use meaningfully in their daily lives.
